“The smallest minority on earth is the individual. Those who deny individual rights cannot claim to be defenders of minorities."
I found a quote that seemed to be in contradiction to conservative thinking, thus proving one must not rust to quote Rand to support one's argument, as she has had conflicting opinions with a number of things.
“Statism needs war; a free country does not. Statism survives by looting; a free country survives by producing.”
To which he responded:
"And of course you know that the opposite of statism is capitalism."
Disagreed, although that would certainly be a valid argument, if it weren't for the Halliburtons and the Bechtels of the world. Capitalism is more in cahoots with statism these days, rather than opposite, otherwise we wouldn't have corporate lawyers and lobbyists running the government, or all the allegations of profiteering of taxpayer money by the above named, as well as eminent domain offences committed by city, county, and state governments where people are forced out of their homes in the wake of the current high-rise movement here in Vegas. Capitalism is a wonderful thing, when it's under control and is not allowed to pay its way into government. Of course, corporations aren't completely to blame for the Government of the Lobbyists. Politicians on both sides of the aisle take money from these scoundrels who will stop at nothing to make an extra dime - and these employess of the taxpayer are at their whim. Makes me want to not even bother leaving home on election day.
Synopsis: No philosophy, whether religious, political, or economic, is without flaw. Therefore, they should be kept in balance. Any upset to that balance will be detrimental for someone, somewhere. To support the allowance of an upset in natural balance is fundamentalism.
